We’re excited to share our collaboration on the stunning 2022 Netflix adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover! This romantic drama beautifully adapts the once scandalous novel by D.H. Lawrence, and Wainwright’s was grateful to be a part of transforming the iconic mansion to enhance the storytelling of the film.
Client Brief and Project Overview
The production team approached us with a unique challenge: the lead-up to a period property required adjustments to its driveway and surrounding grassy areas. The goal was to create a more authentic single-track appearance by removing sections of the existing driveway, adding turf in and then reinstating the damaged verges once filming was complete. Our task involved not just aesthetic enhancements, but also ensuring the surrounding landscape reflected the film’s historical context.
Our Approach
- Driveway Transformation: We used a membrane over the driveway to facilitate the addition of grass, ensuring a seamless integration with the surrounding landscape.
- Restoration Efforts: Using our expert machinery, we removed existing plant pots and reinstated damaged verges to maintain the property’s period charm before and after filming.
- Road Dressing: In addition to the driveway work, we undertook road dressing in Corrice, Wales, using our unique period specific aggregate which ensured every detail aligned with the film’s period aesthetic.
Overcoming Challenges
- Grass Maintenance: Keeping the newly laid turf alive on the driveway was critical. We implemented a rigorous watering and mowing schedule to match the existing grass.
- Grass Variety: To achieve the desired look of an untamed, period-appropriate landscape, we used two types of turf: neat grass for maintained areas and meadow grass for a more unkempt appearance. This required maintenance over weeks of filming
